I first heard this song, my introduction to the grea Big Maybelle, on a compilation disc I found in college in ‘71. Immediately I began a quest to obtain all of her recordings. Strangely enough, I still haven’t found her only song to hit the charts…”96 Tears”. Anyone know where to find it?

WRONG! Maybelle did a cover version of ? and the Mysterians’ song. IT WAS HER ONLY RECORDING TO HIT THE CHARTS. Believe me, I’m SURE.

In fact you are right. Maybelle did 96 Tears in 1967 and it was LaVern Baker that did the song “I Cried A Tear.”
