Hi.
I just bought some 7 records off eBay, but they have arrived stinking of smoke! I’ve had a look at different ways to remove smoke smells from different things, but not vinyl records. Does anybody know what I can do to get rid of it. it’s not too strong, but it still smells and i hate it!
Hope you can all help me, thanks a lot =D

Also, how do i remove smoke from the sleeves. Will soap and water be ok, or will it damage them? I’m thinking it will be ok.

try keep them in SUN and clean with savlon very light and dry like touch
Its best to buy vinyl cleaner from a shop.
Whatever you do don’t put your vinyl in direct sunlight, this will warp them.
DONT PUT THEM IN THE SUN!!!! They will melt and be ruined.
You can take a large box, place bag of charcoal inside of it, cut a huge section, of the side of the bag facing up, off. Place and old t-shirt, towel, section of newspaper, cooling racks, or other such thing on top of the charcoal but that will allow air flow without the records touching the charcoal, and place the records on that and set the whole thing into a closet or other place and leave them alone for a week or two. The charcoal will absorb any odors and the records will be safe.
EUREKA!!! A dish strainer that you dry washed dishes in would work perfectly for this while separating the records and they would be perfectly safe from scratching and have proper air flow.
If its the actual records that smell you can easily literally wash them in warm not hot water with a small amount of washing up liquid and the dry with kitchen paper roll..However if it is the sleeves that smell try spraying with deodorant after wiping with a damp sponge
You can used alcohol and a cotton ball. Make sure you wipe around and not up and down.
