I am interested in vinyl records, and have heard that they are starting to come back, any truth to this? Anyways I was just wondering what I would need to be able to play vinyl records, what are some good brands, and if they’re really worth investing in. Any advice would be great.

    You can get record players.

I have seen them at Wal-Mart, Sears,
    and Fry’s Electronics.
I believe you can get a record player at
    Radio Shack.

You need a turntable; there actually is a company that makes laser turntables, thus no needle, and so no way to scratch the record.

The quality of an analog record is superior to the digitized cd or mp3, and also some artists actually prefer to publish albums on records as it allows them control over their music.

Vinyl will never die. Also there are some amazing albums out there that have never been transferred to cd’s for one reason or another, and if you find them, there is no way to listen to them without a turntable.

You need a turntable, a phono cartridge, and a stereo with a phono pre-amplifier. If you just want to play with a turntable to see how you like it, you can get a USB turntable from Audio-Technica that connects to a computer and has it’s own built in amplifier.

Otherwise, I’d recommend a Technics turntable with a Shure cartridge. You’ll get a decent sound out of that combination, and there are various price points that should fit into your budget. You might be able to find a good turntable on eBay or Craigslist since a lot of people are looking to get rid of them.
