I just recently inherited a couple hundred vinyl records and a record player. Some of them are in sleeves, some not. What is the best way to store these records where I can easily access them when I want to listen to them? I don’t want them to get damaged but I don’t want to just box them up and put them in the attic either. I’d like to actually use them.

   Welcome to the world of vinyl )

   Try to keep them stored upright and away from a window and any radiators. Vinyl is easily warped and just sunlight can warp it so much that you’ll never be able to play it plus if you have them lying down the bottom record is under so much pressure it could warp or crack.
   Clean your records with a soft cloth or record cleaner. Go in the direction of the grooves not across as this may make tiny scratches on the records which will be heard when you play them. Do not use water.
   Have a look on Ebay for cardboard sleeves for vinyl. You can get card ones in white very cheaply in both 7 and 12. You can write titles on these and they will help to keep them in good condition. You can also get storage boxes but they might be a little expensive for a few hundred. Pity I’ve just thrown two cases to store 500 7 singles you could have had them. Not to worry.

   Store them upright on shelves to reduce damage. Away from direct sunlight or moisture. You can wrap the ones that do not have sleeves in blank newspaper or put them in empty sleeves you find online.
